Many educators know and understand how important involving parents in learning is, which is why ‘hard to reach parents’ can be one of the biggest challenges they face. This course considers why some parents are disengaged, how to overcome barriers to participation, and building back trust with families.

Learning Outcomes

• You will know and understand the reasons why parents and carers become hard to reach
• You will understand the importance of effective communication, and be given some strategies to overcome barriers to communication
• You will consider how to engage with groups at risk of being hard to reach - fathers and Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller families
