Who are Short Courses for?
Anyone can complete one of our short courses if they think it will be of benefit to them. Our courses are perfect for those in work, education, or working on their personal and professional development.
Why should I complete a short course?
There are lots of reasons a short course might benefit you, these include:
Some courses allow you to achieve new skills that are compulsory for your job role, such as ‘Food Safety’.
What should I do if I can’t access my course?
Any course you purchase or use a valid access code for should automatically appear on the Home tab of your account, under the ‘Your Courses’ section. If you can’t see a course you have purchased here, then please email firstname.lastname@example.org with:

Do I have to buy a course to get the 'Digital skills' and 'Health and safety: ICT' courses for free?
No, anyone who registers for an account will get these two free courses automatically added to their account.
What does ‘CPD’ mean?
CPD stands for Continuous Professional Development. In your job role, you may be required to complete a certain amount of CPD each year in order to keep your skills relevant. For example, it’s usually recommended that childcare professionals complete 30 hours of CPD a year. This might be some time in a new work environment, attending conferences or workshops, and also completing courses.
How do Laser Learning short courses work?
Our short courses are all completed in the same way. You can login to your short course account at any time and access your learning. Each course has a tutorial, reading, presentation, good practice example, activity, further learning, and assessment quiz section. You can work through these sections at your own pace and return to them as many times as you want to.
What makes a Laser Learning short course different to other short courses?
Our short courses have been created to make learning new skills engaging, worthwhile, and with different learning styles in mind. Each tutorial has been filmed by our team at Laser Studios and we use professional presenters like Kevin Duala of The One Show and Blues Clues fame!
Our writers have a working knowledge of the subject and our dedicated content team regularly reviews and updates courses to ensure legislation and guidance is current and the course is working perfectly.
Each course includes a further learning section which gives you the opportunity to undertake your own research, complete tasks, and read around the subject. Encouraging learners to go above and beyond the requirements for the course.
Who writes Laser Learning short courses?
Our short courses are written by a subject specialist with occupational competence in the subject area. This means our childcare short courses are written by childcare professionals, our business courses are written by business professionals, etc.
The course content is then carefully edited and reviewed by our content team to ensure it meets our standards.

What do I get at the end of the short course?
When you successfully complete a course, you can download and print your Laser Learning certificate. If the course you have chosen to complete is endorsed, you can also choose to pay for an additional certificate from the awarding body. The additional cost of this certificate covers your registration with the awarding body and the printing and postage costs.
Do I have to complete an assessment?
There is a multiple choice quiz at the end of each course. There is no limit on how many times you can take the quiz. You need to successfully complete the course in order to access your certificate.
What are ‘bundles’?
Bundles are collections of courses offered at a discounted price when purchased together. You can find the bundles on the ‘Courses’ page below the categories of standalone courses.
Are Laser Learning short courses recognised qualifications?
Our short courses are not full qualifications. CPD courses are designed to build on your skills, teach you something new, and build your confidence. They are not recognised as an accredited qualification.
What does it mean if a course is ‘endorsed’?
If a course is endorsed, this means the content has been approved by an awarding body or organisation, and they would recommend the course. In order to have a course endorsed, the awarding body or organisation looks through all the course content and assessment, and takes into consideration who it has been written by. They will recommend any necessary changes and when they are happy the course meets their endorsement criteria, they give their endorsement.
Why aren’t all Laser Learning short courses endorsed?
Our Laser e-portfolio is endorsed by CACHE, and so we have put our childcare courses through the CACHE endorsement process. We are in the process of endorsing courses under other subject areas and with other awarding bodies and organisations.
If a course isn’t endorsed, is it of a lower standard than the other short courses?
Absolutely not. All our courses follow the same format and must meet the same standards. If a course is not endorsed, it simply means we haven’t found the right organisation to endorse it at this time. The course content is always of the highest quality to allow us to send it for endorsement should we need to.
I am a member of childcare.co.uk, how do I access courses?
When you have found the course you would like to take, click on the ‘Purchase with Access Code’ button and enter the code sent to you by childcare.co.uk. Access codes can only be used once.
Please note: codes issued for the old short course site (short.laserlearning.co.uk) are not valid on this site. If you think you have a code for the old site, please get in contact with childcare.co.uk and ask for a new one.

What do I do if I can’t remember my username and/or password?
If you have forgotten your password, click on the link next to ‘Forgot your password?’ just below the log in section. This will send you an email with a link in it which you can use to reset your password.
Your username will be your email address – if you have multiple emails then try each one and if none of them work, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and our team will get back to you as soon as we can.

What do I do if I haven’t received a confirmation email?
Please email email@example.com with the email address you attempted to register with and they can check whether or not you have registered for the site successfully.

I have a business account and want to purchase licenses, what are my payment options?
If you have a business account and wish to purchase licenses, you can pay by invoice under the the 'Purchase Licences' tab on the 'My Organisation' page. You can use the 'Pay by Invoice' button to place an invoiced order.
You will need to contact us to make payment by phone: 01753 584 112, or you can make payment by BACS. BACS details can be found on the invoice which will be available to download as a PDF once you have placed an order.
Licenses will be available to use straight away if you choose to pay by invoice. You will not have to wait until the payment clears to start using your licences.
How do I purchase licences and assign courses to my learners?

Can I buy courses if I don’t have a PayPal account?
Yes! On the Shopping Basket page, click on the PayPal checkout button and you will be asked to log in OR you click the button 'Check Out as a Guest'. Click that button and enter your card details and billing address to check out without having to register with PayPal.
If you would prefer to pay over phone, make sure you have registered for an account first and then call us on 01753 584 112 with your details to hand. After we have taken your payment, we will assign the course/bundle to your account.
How do I apply for a CACHE certificate?
After successfully passing the quiz in your CACHE endorsed course, you will get a congratulations message and a link to go back to the course page. After clicking on this link, you will be directed back to the course page, which now gives you the option of purchasing a CACHE certificate. Click the 'Buy Now' button to purchase the certificate and follow the instructions on screen.
If you haven't entered your address on the 'My Profile' area of your account, you will br prompted to do so before you can order a CACHE Certificate.
Once you have entered your address, go to the 'My certificates' area of your account and you will now see the 'Buy Now' button.
The course page also contains your Laser Learning certificate, which can be downloaded by clicking on 'Click here to download your certificate for this course'.
Can you send a CACHE certificate to an international address?
Yes. We are happy to send certificates by international post, but please be aware that delivery times will be a lot longer than the 14 days for UK addresses – particularly for countries outside of Europe.
If you would like a CACHE e-Certificate instead, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and this will be processed for you. We will aim to send you an e-Certificate over email in 5-7 business days. You can also request a CACHE e-Certificate whilst you wait for the international delivery, please email email@example.com to request this.
I completed a short course with you a while ago – can I still apply for a CACHE certificate?
As long as the course is still active and endorsed by CACHE, you will be able to purchase a CACHE certificate. All successfully completed CAHCE endorsed courses will give you the option of purchasing a certificate, regardless of when it was completed. If there is a problem with your order, such as CACHE no longer endorses the course or we have removed it from the site, then we will get in touch with you and process a full refund.
What happens after I choose to receive a separate certificate from the awarding body?
After purchasing the certificate from the awarding body, your request will be passed on to our certification administrator who will register you with the awarding body and make a claim for your certificate. Once claimed, the awarding body will send the certificate to our office in Langley and our certification administrator will send it on to you. Please ensure the address on your account is the address you would like us to send your certificate to.
This process normally takes 14 working days. Should you require an electronic copy of your certificate or would like an update on the status of your order, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Can I look at course material after I’ve completed a course?
You can go back to a course you have completed as many times as you like.
Can I contact you if I am looking for a course you don’t currently offer?
Of course. We may be able to direct you to the content you are looking for in another course or we may already be working on something similar. We are always open to suggestions for new courses so please feel free to get in touch with us. Please email email@example.com with your request.
What do I do if a link isn’t working in my course?

Do you offer short courses in another language?
Unless otherwise stated, short courses are currently only available in English (UK).
Should I complete a course if I am living outside the UK?
One of the many advantages of e-learning is that you can complete a course anywhere you have access to an internet enabled device. It is worth considering though that some courses will refer to UK customs, laws, and legislation.
In the majority of courses, the content covered is universal and guidance can be applied to any workplace, but if there are references to customs, laws, and legislation, they will be UK specific.
I’ve lost my CACHE certificate - how do I get a replacement?
Your CACHE certificate is printed by CACHE and not by us, so you will need to contact them directly to ask about a replacement certificate. You can find out more on their website: here
I’ve lost my Laser Learning certificate – how do I get a replacement?
After successfully completing a course, your certificate will be automatically stored in the ‘My certificates’ area of your account.
You can download a certificate as many times as you like.
How do I buy short courses in bulk for my staff?
Registering as a business allows you to purchase licences and create accounts for your employees so that they can complete courses as part of their continual professional development.
In order to do this, you will need to register as a business by clicking on the ‘Sign up’ button at the top of the homepage and entering your organisations details. You will also need to enter the details of an ‘administrator’ – this will be the person who is responsible for purchasing credits, setting up your learners or employees, and checking on their course completion status.
Once registered and logged in, you will be able to see a ‘My organisation’ area on your account. This is the place where you can add / edit learner details, check your details, and purchase licenses. Licences are used to assign a course to a learner and can be paid for by invoice. You can purchase up to 1000 licenses in a single transaction.

Registering as a business allows you to purchase licences and create accounts for your employees or learners so that they can complete courses as part of their continual professional development. You do not have to be a business to register as one.
You can also purchase a Laser system for your organisation with access to all our CPD short courses. I want to do the Care Certificate course but it is on another website – is this right?
Our Care Certificate online course is used by healthcare professionals and care managers for their staff. This course is hosted on a separate website but we do list it under short courses as some users have asked for it in the past. To enrol on the Care Certificate all you need to do is register on the website: www.lasercarecertificate.co.uk.
I want to sign up for Laser Maths but it is on another website – is this right?
Laser Maths is a larger programme for people who want to improve their core maths skills. We have listed it with our short courses as it has been requested by some users, however, you need to register for Laser Maths on the separate Laser Maths website. Please visit www.lasermaths.co.uk to register.
I want to sign up for Real World but it is on another website – is this right?
Our Real World programme is a larger programme that can be purchased by individuals or schools. We have listed the course on the short courses website as these are skills some people may be looking to learn. If you would like to register for the Real World course, please visit real-world.org.
